Winter weather conditions in Reno often create a challenging and potentially dangerous environment for driving. The Reno Gazette Journal has reported numerous traffic accidents in Reno over the last two weeks due to poor driving conditions and ice on the roads.
On November 24, a young driver traveling west on Interstate 80 in a white Toyota pickup hit a patch of black ice in the far right lane and lost control of the vehicle. According to the report, the vehicle “left the road, rolled, and came to rest on its roof next to the freeway exit to Robb drive.” Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries.
Nevada Highway Patrol also reported multiple accidents on November 23, causing several more rollovers and spin-outs as weather conditions forced highway closures throughout the area. With below or near freezing temperatures and moisture on the roads, it is important to keep basic winter driving safety tips in mind.
