Program Description

You know the law to a tee, but when it comes to the medical aspects of injuries and treatment, are you at a loss? Don’t miss this opportunity to augment your legal knowledge with an anatomy primer straight from medical professionals. Focusing on the body parts that bring the most injury claims each year, we’ll examine each part’s anatomy, common injuries sustained, what to look for in medical records and diagnostic test results, and common treatment options. You’ll be surprised at the added insight you’ll gain on your injury cases.

Who Should Attend

This basic level course is designed for attorneys (personal injury, insurance, workers’ compensation, disability) and other legal professionals who would like a better understanding of their cases’ medical aspects. About Laurie Yott & Jim McCarty:

LAURIE A. The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a non-profit health agency that is dedicated to finding treatments and cures for 43 neuromuscular diseases. It is through your support and kindness that the Association will be able to provide services to over 800 Reno Area families affected by muscular dystrophy.  These services include free clinic visits , support group sessions, summer activities for kids, assisting with medical equipment (such as wheelchairs, leg braces, communication devices) repairs, and funding innovative research.  We are specifically trying to raise money to send two (2) kids to the local summer camp!

Of course, accidents happen to all of us at one point or another, and sliding on a patch of ice or tripping on a step is not an abnormal occurrence – often injuring only our pride. On November 24, a young driver traveling west on Interstate 80 in a white Toyota pickup hit a patch of black ice in the far right lane and lost control of the vehicle. According to the report, the vehicle “left the road, rolled, and came to rest on its roof next to the freeway exit to Robb drive.” Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries.

Nevada Highway Patrol also reported multiple accidents on November 23, causing several more rollovers and spin-outs as weather conditions forced highway closures throughout the area. With below or near freezing temperatures and moisture on the roads, it is important to keep basic winter driving safety tips in mind. The Reno police, public works and fire departments have provided a list of tips which include:

•Limit outings to only those necessary. Less traffic on the roadways makes it safer for everyone.

•Slow down, keep a safe following distance, allow for extra travel time, and be cautious of roadways with snow drifts, ice, or standing water.

•Get vehicles ready for winter driving conditions in advance. This includes changing wiper blades, filling fluids, checking tires, purchasing chains or cables, and making sure the vehicle is operating properly.

In preparing for the unfortunate event that an accident does occur, or to help others on the road, the Nevada Department of Transportation recommends carrying several items in the vehicle including:
